Bye, Bye Sears. Is Shoppingtown Mall Next?

At the end of July 2018, Sears will no longer be a part of the Shoppingtown Mall. Due to this, it’s predicted that Shoppingtown Mall will suffer furthermore.

Patrick Penfield, professor of supply chain practice at the Whitman School, told CNY Central  he predicts at some point there will be “reconstruction, deconstruction of Shoppingtown Mall.” According to the article, this decision seems as no surprise to some, Penfied included. He states, “Right around the time of the internet, Sears wasn’t forward thinking, they didn’t see how much commerce was going to be done on the internet. Shutting down the less profitable stores is really the only choice, and could mean a big change for the mall,” Penfield explains.
