On Saturday, April 28, the Syracuse University Student Veterans Organization and faculty and staff Veterans Affinity Group are joining together to support the welcome home ceremony of 80 veterans, mostly from World War II and the Korean War, who will be on Honor Flight Mission No. 11. The entire Syracuse University community is invited to attend.

Through Honor Flight Syracuse, America’s veterans have the opportunity to go Washington, D.C., and visit the national memorials dedicated to their service and sacrifice. When the veterans return to Syracuse, a ceremony will take place in a large tent outside the terminal at Syracuse Hancock International Airport, with the veteran procession proceeding from the terminal to the tent.

Family, friends and volunteers will be able to park in the parking garage and open lot at the standard hourly rate. Individuals desiring to car pool from Syracuse University should meet in the parking area behind University College by 5 p.m. on April 28. All others should plan to arrive at the airport by about 5:30 p.m. The arrival time for the flight is approximately 6:15 p.m. Attendees will gather outside of the south end of the terminal, near the Honor Flight tent. Look for the “Real Veterans Wear Orange” T-shirts and wear your own Orange apparel!

Please contact Ed Kiewra or Christine Brophy in the Office of Institutional Research and Assessment (OIRA) if you have any questions.
