women dancing on stageThe Sujata Banerjee Dance Company presents a captivating evening of Kathak celebrating the magic of spring on Tuesday, April 10, at 7 p.m. in Hendricks Chapel.

It is the season that brings hope and optimism, that celebrates rebirth and rejuvenates the soul. It is also a time to rejoice and marvel at the kaleidoscopic and vibrant colors of nature as well as serving as a timely reminder of its robust strength. The dancers will perform classical Kathak and present an innovative and dynamic piece, Together We Can, which has toured in India and Europe extensively.

This new work was inspired by choreographer Sujata Banerjee’s response to global climate change. Mother Earth’s distress is conveyed through the imaginative Kathak movements with an original composition from talented UK-ased musician Shammi Pithia.

The Sujata Banerjee Dance Company is at the forefront of promoting and developing South Asian dance in the United Kingdom and internationally. The performance is sponsored by the South Asia Center, Moynihan Institute of Global Affairs, Hendricks Chapel, School of Education, SPIC MACAY, Department of Religion and Office of Multicultural Affairs.
