Trump’s Ironic Libel Liability

While campaigning, President Trump promised America that he would “open up our libel laws.” That has now taken a recent ironic spin for the POTUS, who has since lost a libel case amidst a case of sexual misconduct. To Roy Gutterman, Newhouse associate professor, Tully Center for Free Speech director and First Amendment expert, the situation is clear.
“The irony is glaring,” he told the New York Times in an article entitled ‘A Bit of Divine Justice’: Trump Vowed to Change Libel Law. But Not Like This.’ Gutterman continued, “The libel bully is now facing libel liability himself.”
