New research has discovered the most musically-inclined whale. While that sentence seems odd, its true, as researchers have found that bowhead whales have created 184 different songs over a three-year span, a very high number considering the relatively low amount of bowheads themselves. Biology associate professor Susan Parks spoke with the AP about this research, praising its efforts.
She called the research “a huge step forward” in discussing bowhead whales, adding that, “the diversity of signal types uncovered by this study suggests that something very different is going on with bowhead whale song.”
