Why Would Trump Block Gateway Project?

After intervention from President Trump, Gateway will no longer go ahead with a $30-billion dollar project. To Maxwell Dean David Van Slyke, this is surprising, due to Trump’s background as a builder and New Yorker. For the Washington Post, he commented further on the blockade.

“When he gets involved in a project like this, it’s hard to understand . . . what is his preferred alternative?” Van Slyke said. “What is the underlying set of goals? He’s for something until he appears to be against something.”
