How Amazon is Influencing Indian Economics

Devashish Mitra, an economics professor at the Maxwell School, was interviewed by Economic Times Retail about the startup market within India, and how large companies like Amazon and Alibaba are influencing them. Mitra also talked about other systems for India to follow while recommending avoiding China as a template.

“The main reason China keeps Google and Facebook out is that they want to restrict the flow of information and ideas to their citizens,” he says. “That is not something a democracy should do… There are some things to learn from China but not its control of economic and political freedom.”
