What We Know About School Shootings, and What Can be Done

In an op-ed for the New York Times, Erica Goode, visiting assistant professor of newspaper and online journalism at the Newhouse School, writes about authorities and researchers have learned about school shootings and how to better prevent them.
“Violence is, of course, notoriously difficult to predict, and no one thinks that all school shootings can be prevented,” she writes. “Yet experts in assessing threats say that there are approaches that in some cases can be effective in derailing a planned act of violence.”
