Expert Grygiel Comments on Twitter’s First Profit

Though it sounds surprising, Twitter just announced a first for the company: turning a profit. This was announced earlier this week, with the company saying that it earned $91 million in the fourth quarter, marking the first profits since the social media site went public in 2013. For AFP, Newhouse social media professor Jennifer Grygiel commented on this, and the staying power of the site.

“It shows that Twitter has staying power. A lot of people have had doubts for several years,” she said. “It really is the fastest newswire service we’ve ever seen. Influencers and news junkies come to Twitter because of that microblogging function that we don’t see in other places.”
