John Caputo Interviewed about President Trump

The New York Times recently released an article entitled “Is President Trump a Stealth Postmodernist or Just a Liar?” In the piece, they interviewed Arts and Sciences emeritus professor John Caputo, who shared his thoughts on the situation.

“In postmodern theory we are better served by the idea of having ‘good reasons,’ meaning the best idea that anybody has at the moment, remembering that some obscure fellow working in a patent office because he can’t find a job teaching physics is liable to change the face of physics tomorrow morning,” he said. However, with Trump, it “is not that he is an “anything goes relativist,” but that he is an authoritarian, a would-be strong man, who launches vile personal attacks on anyone who criticizes him.”
