Syracuse University to Remain Fully Open on Saturday, Jan. 13
Syracuse University is currently monitoring and evaluating weather conditions for Saturday, Jan. 13. As the safety of students, faculty, staff and visitors is the University’s top priority, University leaders and public safety officials are assessing anticipated travel conditions to and from campus. This effort includes reviewing the most up-to-date National Weather Service data and forecasting, and consulting with an independent meteorologist about what to expect, particularly as it relates to the driving to and traversing campus.
Based on current conditions, the University expects to remain fully open and operational on Saturday, Jan. 13.
While the Physical Plant team has been out early this morning removing snow from campus streets and sidewalks, anyone traveling to campus by vehicle should consider adding time for slower travel on main roads and streets.
Please note, Winter Convocation, scheduled for 10 a.m. in Setnor Auditorium, Crouse College, as well as new student orientation will go on as planned. Additionally, all student services will remain available.
Campus employees are expected to report to campus per their usual schedules. However, and as always, campus community members should be aware and take precautions when severe weather is in the area. If community members experience weather conditions that could affect their safety when traveling to and from the University, they should contact their department head or supervisor, respectively.
The University will continue to evaluate weather and road conditions throughout the day. If a change in the University’s operating status becomes necessary, it will be announced:
- via the University’s Orange Alert system;
- on the University’s campus Twitter account @SUCampus;
- on syr.edu and syracuse.edu; and
- via the Syracuse University radio station WAER-FM88, as well as other local media outlets.
Only Syracuse University’s Office of News Services is authorized to transmit to the news media announcements about the University’s operating status. To learn more about winter weather preparedness, please click here.
