A highlight of the year for many students is participating in intramural sports through the Department of Recreation Services. During the fall semester, there were 100 active intramurals teams playing more than 240 games, with more than 1,100 students involved.
“I think the intramural season is off to a great start, so many students have really gotten involved,” says Angie Petrie, associate director for programs in the Department of Recreation Services. “It’s great to see students taking advantage of getting involved in a sport and creating those bonds with other students.”
Fall intramural leagues include softball, flag football, outdoor soccer, volleyball and handball. In addition to providing an outlet for activity and fun, intramurals provide another way to connect with other students.
“I’ve worked for intramural sports for three years now and I have met some awesome people through both working and playing,” says Henry Haanpää ’19, a geography major in the College of Arts and Sciences and Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs. “Intramural sports are such a great way for students and their friends to play competitive sports while having a good time.”

“Intramurals gives me an opportunity to play in sports at a competitive level while also meeting new people,” says Alec Zoida ’17 G’18, School of Education. “I was able to meet people that I now consider to be my closest friends.”
