Biology Expert Details Whale Research
Susan Parks, an Associate Professor in the Biology department of the College of Arts and Sciences, does unique research with some of the biggest animals on Earth, whales that roam beneath the ocean’s surface. She was featured in a BBC Earth article that dove into her research, detailing the specifics on how she, and her team, collects the data that has surprised even them.
“We have just been completely blown away,” Parks says. “Our assumptions of where the whales are at different times have been upended by listening in an area year-round and discovering they’re there much more often than we thought, for longer periods.”
