Because of a collision of two neutron stars, scientists can now trace back the origins of precious metals like gold and platinum. For Duncan Brown, the Charles Brightman professor of physics, these findings are the result of years of hard work and research, and it really is just the start. He spoke with the LA Times about these findings.
“This is the beginning,” he said. “This is the beginning of bringing the entire human toolkit of observations, of gravitational waves and electromagnetic waves, to bear on understanding our universe and where we live.”
