George Saunders, professor of English at the College of Arts and Sciences, was announced as the winner of the prestigious Man Booker Prize, a global award given to the year’s top novel. He won for his work Lincoln in the Bardo, the professor’s first novel. After the announcement, the New York Times interviewed Saunders, who spoke about his work.
“For me, the nice thing is that the book is hard, and it’s kind of weird and it’s not a traditional novel,” he said. “I didn’t do it just to be fancy, but because there was this emotional core I could feel, and that form was the only way I could get to it.”
