A new study of entrepreneurship research impact ranked the entrepreneurship department at the Whitman School of Management #8 globally. Among the top 50 schools ranked, based on a citation analysis of published entrepreneurship articles, are Harvard University, Stanford University, University of Pennsylvania and Indiana University.

The same study also ranked the top 25 leading contribution authors in entrepreneurship research; Johan Wiklund, Al Berg Professor of Entrepreneurship, ranks #5.

The study, recently published in the Journal of Small Business Management, performed an analysis based on nearly 192,000 citations on more than 2,100 entrepreneurship articles published from 2002 to 2013 in entrepreneurship journals, as well as top management journals.

“This ranking is a real feather in our cap, knowing that the majority of articles reviewed by the study appear in specialty entrepreneurship journals,” says Michel Benaroch, associate dean for research and Ph.D. programs at the Whitman School. “It is evident that the EEE department, and its faculty, is truly making an impact on the niche field of entrepreneurship. They are leading the way domestically and globally through their entrepreneurship research.”

The Whitman School’s EEE department recently published its year-in-review, which includes its research accomplishments from the previous year. Dozens of publications are highlighted, including many co-authored by doctoral students. What’s more, the department combines its scholarship with outreach through its Falcone Center, which leads the way in providing experiential opportunities for students across Syracuse University who are interested in entrepreneurship.
