With Syracuse University preparing to welcome its newest students to campus this August, the Office of First-Year and Transfer Programs is busy putting the final touches on Syracuse Welcome 2017, Syracuse’s new student orientation program. Each year, the staff and Orientation Leaders work with partners across the University to coordinate the move-in process and a full schedule of events and programs. We asked Carrie Grogan Abbott, director of the Office of First-Year and Transfer Programs, four questions about the office and what goes into welcoming Syracuse University’s new students.
The Office of First-Year and Transfer Programs, including our staff of 44 orientation leaders, serves as host for Syracuse Welcome 2017. Our office coordinates Syracuse Welcome programming as well as communications sent to incoming students.
Syracuse Welcome features a full schedule of events that strives to create opportunities for new students to meet each other and to connect them to the University, their school or college, and the City of Syracuse, as well as feel more prepared for the beginning of classes. Programming highlights include the New Student Convocation, school/college Dean’s Welcome meetings and Citrus in the City, our signature event in downtown Syracuse.
Absolutely! Syracuse Welcome would not be possible without volunteers! Staff, faculty, alumni and friends can volunteer to assist during move-in and greet our new students and their families on Aug. 23 and 24.
