Carol M. Satchwell G’11 has been named assistant dean for advancement for the Newhouse School, effective May 1. Satchwell is responsible for the development of the strategic plan for the Newhouse Office of Advancement and coordinates the school’s fundraising efforts.Carol Satchwell

“We are pleased to welcome Carol to Newhouse,” says Dean Lorraine Branham. “Her experience in higher education, her leadership skills and, above all, her success in institutional fundraising make her a great asset to the school.”

Before joining Newhouse, Satchwell served as vice president for institutional advancement at Cazenovia College, where she was responsible for management of the advancement division, including development/fundraising/grants, alumni/parent relations and, for a seven-year period, oversight of communications and marketing. During her tenure, the college secured the largest gifts in its history and saw an increase in unrestricted giving, scholarship support and giving participation rates of alumni and friends.

Before relocating to the CNY region, Satchwell worked in public affairs, television production and advertising in New York City.

Satchwell is an alumna of the Newhouse School, having earned a master’s degree in communications management in 2011. She earned a bachelor’s degree in communications at Fordham University. She earned a certificate in public relations at New York University and completed a Summer Fellowship in Institutional Advancement Leadership at Vanderbilt University’s Peabody College of Education and Human Development.

Satchwell is author of “At the Fundraising Core: Strategic Public Relations in Fundraising Practice” (2010), published by the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE). She is a member of the Leadership Council and chair of the Grants Committee for the Women’s Fund of the CNY Community Foundation; has served as president of the CNY Chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP); was honored as a “40 Under 40” recipient in Syracuse; served as a board member for the Consortium for Children’s Services; is a member of the Alpha Chi National College Honor Scholarship Society; is a graduate of the Leadership Greater Syracuse Class of 1998; and is a current member of  CASE and AFP.
