April 27th Information Session to Focus on Waverly Avenue Construction

Dear Students, Faculty and Staff:

Next month, the Office of Campus Planning, Design and Construction (CPDC), in partnership with the City of Syracuse, will begin work on replacing a more than 100-year-old brick sewer located under Waverly Avenue. Due to its age, the sewer is in danger of failing.

This work, which will also include other critical water main upgrades, will begin after Commencement. It is part of a two-year project funded by a significant federal grant. The grant money will support a number of improvements, including creating new Waverly Avenue bus stop pull-offs that will enhance roadway safety and access.

During this construction:

•  Waverly Avenue will be temporarily closed between University Avenue and South Crouse Avenue from May 15 to August 11.

•  The Waverly Parking Lot will also be temporarily closed, beginning May 15. The lot will remain open for ADA permit holders, who will have access from Marshall Street.

•  Emergency vehicles will continue to have full access to all of Waverly Avenue.

•  Centro buses will be rerouted during the construction. Temporary bus routes will be announced by Centro and shared with the campus community very soon.

•  The Newhouse equipment cage will remain open, and students will have continued access through the Waverly pull-off.

This past week, Parking and Transit Services staff personally contacted all Waverly Lot permit holders to notify them of this forthcoming construction. Except for ADA permit holders, each permit holder has been relocated to alternative campus parking lots.

I recognize you may have questions or concerns about this temporary work and this construction may be an inconvenience. As such, I’d like to invite you to join me, and several of my CPDC colleagues, for an information session to further discuss, among other things, what this work will mean for your daily travels and alternative routes and schedules provided by Centro Bus Service. The details of the information session are as follows:

Thursday, April 27, 2017
Joyce Hergenhan Auditorium, Newhouse 3
4 p.m.

American Sign Language (ASL) and Communication Access Real-Time (CART) interpretation will be available for each event. If you have requests for accessibility and accommodations, please contact the Equal Opportunity, Inclusion and Resolution Services (EOIRS) office at 315.443.4018.

If you have any general construction-related questions, comments or suggestions, please email cpdc@syr.edu. For parking concerns, call Parking and Transit Services at 315.443.4652. If you have questions pertaining to accessibility, contact Aaron Hodukavich, director and ADA coordinator in the Office of Equal Opportunity, Inclusion and Resolution Services, at 315.443.2377 or ajhoduka@syr.edu.

Thank you in advance for your continued patience and support of these important projects.

Sincerely,

Pete Sala
Vice President and Chief Facilities Officer
