As leaders in the community, community ambassadors provide access to resources, build community and serve as a point of contact for off-campus students in need of support.

The Office of Off-Campus and Commuter Services (OCCS) is seeking student applicants for the 2017-18 Community Ambassador (CA) program. Selected applicants will assist students with their transitions to off-campus residences.

CAs serve as role models for other student-residents. As leaders in the community, CAs provide access to resources, build community and serve as a point of contact for off-campus students in need of support. CAs are also responsible for hosting programs on a variety of topics, including alcohol education, financial literacy and healthy eating.

“As a CA, helping these students adjust and engage with the community has been an unforgettable and rewarding experience,” says Tina Zheng, a current CA and senior in the Martin J. Whitman School of Management.  “I look forward to meeting new people everyday, especially other students and people in the community.  The work is not as demanding because the staff is eager to help you along the way.”

Blocks participating in the 2017-18 Community Ambassador program include:

  • Ackerman Avenue
  • Clarendon Street
  • Euclid Avenue
  • Lancaster Avenue
  • Livingston Avenue
  • Ostrom Avenue
  • Maryland Avenue
  • Redfield Place
  • Sumner Avenue
  • Park Point Syracuse

Prospective applicants must work well on a team, possess strong communication skills and be passionate about supporting their community.

Applications are now available on the OCCS website. The deadline to submit an application is Thursday, March 23.

For questions or more information, contact Elin Riggs, director of OCCS, at eriggs@syr.edu.
