Through a pilot program in collaboration with the Student Association (SA), E.S. Bird Library will be open 24 hours, seven days a week during midterms, including the weekends of Feb. 24-26 and March 3-5. Bird Library normally closes at 10 p.m. on Friday and Saturday nights.
SA is covering the costs of security and custodial services for the additional 56 open hours. The initiative was championed by James Franco, SA Academic Affairs chair.
“Student Association is thrilled to see this long-desired initiative become a reality. The administrators for Syracuse University Libraries, led by Dean Seaman, were wonderful partners throughout the process, and Student Association thanks them for their support,” Franco says. “We look forward to seeing the positive effects this change has on the campus community and will continue to work with Syracuse University Libraries to create more impactful initiatives down the road.”
