Syracuse University students are among the many students throughout the United States who help the Red Cross fulfill its lifesaving mission by donating blood. In fact, approximately 20 percent of the millions of blood donations made every year come from high school and college blood drives.

In its continued support of the Red Cross, SU will hold its sixth annual Blood Battle Challenge against rival school Boston College. The college with the highest number of blood donations in the month of April will win the “battle” and trophy. The event begins on Wednesday, Feb. 15, when the Kickoff Rally blood drive will be held in Goldstein Auditorium. The goal of the Kickoff Rally “mega blood drive” is to reach 200 blood donations in one day.

All those who come to donate are eligible to receive a $5 Amazon.com gift card via email for making blood and platelet donation a priority this winter. In addition, presenting donors will receive a $10 Visa gift card, and entry into hourly drawings for great giveaways from your favorite local merchants.

Entertainment during the blood drive includes female a cappella group The Mandarins and singer and acoustic guitarist Max Wojonowski.

This initiative is sponsored by the Division of Enrollment and the Student Experience at SU and the SU Red Cross Club.
