The Traditions Commission is currently seeking recipe submissions for the annual Chili Cook-off, a longstanding tradition during Winter Carnival. Students, faculty and staff can submit recipes until Wednesday, Feb. 8. Submitted recipes will be prepared by SU Food Services for tastings during the Chili Cook-off.

Students line up for chili at last year’s Chili Cook-Off.

“The Chili Cook-off is my absolute favorite Syracuse event of the year,” says Kristen Unangst, a junior in the Martin J. Whitman School of Management and a member of the Traditions Commission. “It’s such a great excuse to see friends, enjoy the snow and eat the best chili in the world. I cannot wait for this year’s event!”

The Chili Cook-off is Thursday, Feb. 23, on the Huntington Beard Crouse Building Patio. The event begins at 11 a.m. and lasts until all the chili is gone. Tastings are free.

Winter Carnival is scheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 21, through Saturday, Feb. 25, and includes a full schedule of activities to engage the campus community during Syracuse’s coldest month. Activities include Trivia Night, a cappella performances, laser tag and more. The tradition dates back to 1933.

For more information or questions, contact the Traditions Commission at sutraditions@gmail.com or call the Office of Student Activities at 315.443.2718.
