Message from Tony Callisto Jr., SVP for Safety and Chief Law Enforcement Officer
Dear Students, Faculty and Staff:
Syracuse University’s Department of Public Safety (DPS) continues to follow longstanding policies regarding inquiries about individual immigration status and federal immigration investigations.
In the course of its regular activities and investigations, DPS does not inquire about or maintain records concerning immigration status of individuals on our campus. Nor do DPS officers voluntarily assist, or act on behalf or at the direction of, federal officials in connection with immigration investigations or raids.
When presented with a subpoena, warrant or court order, DPS seeks the advice of the University’s General Counsel. Following General Counsel’s review and confirmation that the instrument received is a lawfully issued directive, DPS may authorize officers to assist the University in compliance.
If you have any questions regarding the University’s policies, please don’t hesitate to contact me.
Tony Callisto Jr.
Senior Vice President for Safety and Chief Law Enforcement Officer
