Climate Survey Results Subject of Wednesday Campus Conversation

The last of four Campus Conversation sessions on the SU Climate Assessment Survey will take place on Wednesday, Feb. 1, from 6-7 p.m. in Rooms 304 ABC in the Schine Student Center. Refreshments will be provided. For accommodation requests, email Denise Dowdall (ddowdall@syr.edu).

The facilitated discussion offers students, faculty and staff an opportunity to share their thoughts on the survey’s findings to help the Climate Assessment Planning Committee (CAPC) prepare its recommendations of actions the University should consider to foster a more inclusive learning, living and working environment. Input can also be provided via an online form at survey.syr.edu. The CAPC will present its final recommendations in March 2017.

The survey executive summary and the full survey report were released in late October. Both can be found at MySlice.syr.edu. Nearly 6,000 members of the University community completed the campus-wide survey, which was conducted from Feb. 9-March 28, 2016.

It focused on the experiences and perceptions of various campus constituent groups related to sexual harassment and sexual violence, race, gender identity and gender expression, sexual orientation, disability services, the academic environment for students, the workplace environment for faculty and staff, and other topics.

The idea for conducting a climate survey originated with the Chancellor’s Workgroup on Sexual Violence Prevention, Education and Advocacy, as one of the 24 recommendations in the workgroup’s final report.

Previous Campus Conversation sessions were held in November, December and January.
