The Onondaga Citizens League (OCL) continues its current study, “How CNY Works,” by inviting the public to participate in the next study session. OCL is examining the diversity of Central New York’s economic base. The next session will be held at Mercy Works Vision Center, 1221 S. Salina St., on Wednesday, Nov. 30, from noon-1:30 p.m. OCL’s study sessions are free and open to the public.
The session will focus on what helps or hinders people seeking work in Central New York. With the area’s high level of concentrated poverty, finding ways for people to obtain and retain stable employment is essential. A diverse group of panelists representing government, nonprofits and community activists will lead a discussion on workforce development. The presenters will share a variety of approaches taken locally and look at keys to success and obstacles to employment.
Light snacks and beverages will be provided. Attendees are invited to bring and eat lunch during the presentation.
Additional study sessions are scheduled for Dec. 7 and Dec. 14. Check www.onondagacitizensleague.org for location and times.
OCL study sessions are designed to promote dialogue, reflection and learning around critical community issues. The current study is exploring the interrelationship between employers, workers, jobs, wages and overall community prosperity, including the implications for dealing with the concentration of poverty in Syracuse.
The Onondaga Citizens League is a nonprofit, nonpartisan citizen-based group designed to promote civic education and involvement in public affairs. Its members research and propose recommendations to issues facing Central New York and generates a yearly report on its findings.
