Veteran and Military Affairs, Army ROTC, Air Force ROTC Announce ROTC Dottle Scholars

A new scholarship has been established for Syracuse University Air Force and Army Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) cadets, made possible through a generous gift from Paul Dottle and the Dottle Family Foundation.

The Dottle Family ROTC Cadet Scholarship will be awarded each year to deserving future leaders in the University’s Army and Air Force ROTC programs, in recognition of their hard work, dedication and commitment to service.

“The support of Paul and the Dottle Family Foundation has made a tremendous impact on our goal to be the best university for veteran and military-connected students,” says Mike Haynie, the University’s vice chancellor for strategic initiatives and innovation. “This commitment ensures that we will be able to continue to attract the finest future military leaders to our ROTC programs while also providing much-needed annual funding to support our veteran and military-connected students with the resources to be successful here at Syracuse University and beyond.”

Scholarship recipients will be chosen through a competitive process that will explore the applicant’s academics, citizenship, physical aptitude and potential to serve successfully in the U.S. Army and U.S. Air Force. These scholarships allow the ROTC programs to recognize deserving cadets while having additional support to ensure that the University’s ROTC programs continue to train the best military leaders in the country.

This year’s scholarship recipients are:
• Army ROTC Cadet Lindzee N. Powell, a senior in the College of Arts and Sciences;
• Army ROTC Cadet William C. Northrop, a sophomore in the College of Engineering and Computer Science;
• Air Force Cadet Jack A. Margeson, a junior in the College of Arts and Sciences; and
• Air Force Cadet Connor D. Jones, a freshman in the School of Education.

“My family is honored to be a part of everything that is happening at Syracuse University in support of veteran and military-connected students on campus,” says Dottle. “As the son and brother of veterans, and proud father of a U.S. Air Force officer, I can’t imagine a better cause to support.” Dottle has two children—Griffin Dottle ’14, an alumnus of the College of Arts and Sciences and the University’s Air Force ROTC, and Madelyn Dottle, a junior in the Falk College of Sport and Human Dynamics.

The scholarship is part of a larger leadership gift from the Dottle family, which provides much-needed support and funding to the Office of Veteran and Military Affairs as well as further operational support to both the Air Force and Army ROTC programs.
