Provost Wheatly Appoints Faculty Salary Review Committee
Provost Michele Wheatly has appointed 18 members of the faculty and academic leadership to serve on a Faculty Salary Review Committee. The appointees were identified in partnership with the University Senate, whose Agenda Committee had nominated individuals from each school and college to serve on the committee. Provost Wheatly announced the appointments at the University Senate meeting on Wednesday.
Committee appointees include both tenured and non-tenure track faculty. They are:
- Aviva Abramovsky, professor, Law
- Libby Barlow, assistant vice president, Office of Institutional Research and Assessment
- Jean-François Bédard, associate professor, Architecture
- Tej Bhatia, professor, Arts & Sciences
- Ravi Dharwadkar, professor, Whitman
- Larry Elin, associate professor, Newhouse
- Mark Glauser, professor, Engineering and Computer Science
- Laura Heyman, associate professor, VPA
- Yilin Hou, professor, Maxwell
- Jill Hurst-Wahl, professor of practice, iSchool
- Barbara Kwasnik, professor, iSchool
- Alan Middleton, professor, Arts & Sciences
- Robert Murrett, professor of practice, Maxwell
- Deborah Pellow, professor, Maxwell
- Kamala Ramadoss, associate professor, Falk
- Derek Seward, associate professor, Education
- Pamela Socker, director of compensation strategy, Human Resources
LaVonda Nichelle Reed, associate provost for faculty affairs and a professor in the College of Law, will serve as convener of the committee.
The committee is charged with reviewing trends in faculty salary data for full-time faculty Universitywide. Data will include average salary for each school and college by rank and by gender; it also will look at average salary by underrepresented minorities Universitywide by rank. Year-to-year trends will be examined for academic years 2012-13, 2013-14, 2014-15, 2015-16 and 2016-17.
The last salary review was conducted in 2012-13 by the former Committee Z, whose findings were then distributed by the University’s chapter of the American Association of University Professors.
The committee will work on data collection and analysis over the course of the current academic year and plans to release its findings to the campus community once its work is complete.
