“within walls” is an exhibition of new work by Waisman. This body of work reflects upon the natural processes of growth and decay. Each piece, made out of many cast or modeled fragments, is the outcome of the process of making it. The wall, no longer flat, becomes the concrete support of the work. A mural-like quality of the pieces transforms the wall into a tactile and intricate sensuous surface. Ornament and wall become a metaphor for a time caught between permanence and evanescence.

Waisman was born in Argentina and lives and works in New York City. Her work has been exhibited in the US: Parrish Art Museum, Watermill, N.Y.; Museo del Barrio, N.Y.; SculptureCenter, LIC, N.Y.; Plattsburgh State Art Museum,Wallace Gallery SUNY Old Westbury; Neuhoff Gallery, N.Y.; and Haim Chanin Fine Arts, N.Y. In Germany: Überseemusum, Bremen; Unesco Institut für Pädagogik, Hamburg; and Bürgerhalle im Rathaus, Wolfsburg. In Mexico: Museo del Chopo and Yvonamore Palix Gallery. In Argentina: Fundacion Banco Patricios. She has completed commissions for public places such as Espacio Escultorico del Desierto, San Luis Potosi, Mexico; Museo del Barrio, New York; Plattsburgh Sculpture Park, New York; ART/OMI Sculpture Park, New York; and Socrates Sculpture Park, Long Island City, New York. Reviews of her work have been published in The New York Times, Art in America, ARTnews, Sculpture Magazine, BOMB magazine, Arte al Dia, Art Nexus and ArtMedia among others.

A catalogue with an essay by Claudia Calirman will accompany this exhibition. “within walls” will be on view at Point of Contact Gallery until Dec. 10. The gallery is open Tuesday through Saturday, noon-5 p.m. or by appointment and is free to the public.
