Michele Sipley Named Director of Financial Aid
Following an extensive national search, Michele “Shelly” Sipley has been promoted to be director of financial aid.
Sipley will oversee daily operations in the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarship Programs (OFASP), where her primary duties will include the supervision of more than 35 full-time staff; the development of strategic plans to best utilize institutional, state and federal resources; and the representation of the OFASP and Office of Enrollment Management on committees and task forces. She began her new position on July 18.
“The management of our daily operations is a significant responsibility,” say Ryan Williams, associate vice president of enrollment management. “Thankfully, I’m confident that Shelly is up to the task. She has 20 years of financial aid experience, including three years at the University of New Orleans and the previous 17 years here at Syracuse University in a variety of progressive roles. This breadth of perspective will serve her well in the new role, where she’ll also help ensure adherence to federal, state and University regulations and policies and coordinate the administration of financial aid with the Graduate School, University College and the College of Law. And to top it off, she started as a work study student in the financial aid office of Angelo State University in Texas.”
“Syracuse University has a long history of enrolling talented students from diverse economic and social backgrounds,” says Sipley. “I am excited to have this opportunity to continue to support the outstanding enrollment and financial aid team at Syracuse and feel fortunate to represent this remarkable institution.”
Sipley holds an B.S. in management from Angelo State University in San Angelo, Texas.
