Expert Carriere on Re-Opening of Inter-Korean Industrial Park
A recent Korea Times article profiles arguments for the re-opening of The Gaeseong Industrial Complex, which was the final channel remaining in reconciliatory efforts between North and South Korea. Frederick Carriere, the research professor at the Maxwell School, was interviewed for the piece, sharing his skepticism over the GIC coming back.
“It would be wonderful if the GIC could be reopened, but I don’t see it as likely or even feasible,” said Carriere. “At least, it is hardly likely to happen during the remaining term of President Park Geun-hye, or even during the term of the next administration, unless a dramatic shift occurs in the political environment of the Korean Peninsula.”
