Statement from Syracuse University and Jim Boeheim, Head Coach of the University Men’s Basketball Team
On November 17, 2011, news media outlets reported Robert Davis and Michael Lang’s allegations that Bernie Fine had sexually abused them. The University immediately placed Bernie Fine on leave, eventually terminating his employment. The following day, Head Coach of the University’s Men’s Basketball program, Jim Boeheim, was quoted in newspapers claiming that Bobby Davis and Michael Lang were lying. Coach Boeheim regrets that he made those statements and that he questioned the integrity of Bobby Davis and Michael Lang. Since then, he has publicly committed to focus his charitable efforts on providing assistance to victims of sexual abuse, which he continues to do.
We are glad to announce that we have resolved the defamation case that Mr. Davis and Mr. Lang brought, and look forward to putting this behind us.
