“Syracuse University lost an esteemed member of our alumni community Saturday night with the passing of 1994 College of Law graduate Joseph R. ‘Beau’ Biden III. Our thoughts and prayers are with Beau’s wife Hallie, his two children, his parents Vice President Joseph Biden L’68 and Jill Biden, and his entire extended family.
Many had the good fortune of hearing Beau speak at the Syracuse University College of Law Commencement in 2011, where he reflected on what it means to take the honorable path in life. At the time he said, ‘I want to humbly suggest that you be the guardians of a more complicated truth: That the means are as important—and sometimes even more important—than the ends.’
