12 Outstanding Students Named University Scholars

Twelve graduating seniors have been named as the 2015 Syracuse University Scholars, the highest undergraduate honor that the University bestows.

University Scholars will represent the entire graduating class at the May 10 Commencement ceremony. On Wednesday, April 29, the scholars will take part in a reception at the Chancellor’s residence hosted by Chancellor Kent Syverud and Dr. Ruth Chen, at which they will receive special medallions to be worn at Commencement.

The Syracuse University Scholars Committee, a University-wide faculty committee, selected the 2015 scholars using criteria that included coursework and academic achievement, creative work, a personal statement and a faculty letter of recommendation.

The 2015 Syracuse University Scholars are:

    • Maryann Akinboyewa, Whitman School of Management and Renée Crown University Honors Program
    • Brooke Baerman, College of Arts and Sciences, Renée Crown University Honors Program
    • Matthew Fernandes, Newhouse School, College of Arts and Sciences and Renée Crown University Honors Program
    • Alex Ganes, College of Visual and Performing Arts
    • Jonathan Lee, School of Information Studies
    • Elizabeth McMahon, College of Arts and Sciences, Maxwell School and Renée Crown University Honors Program
    • Natalie Rebeyev, College of Arts and Sciences and Renée Crown University Honors Program
    • Elliott Russell, College of Engineering and Computer Sciences, College of Arts and Sciences and Renée Crown University Honors Program
    • Bo Stewart, College of Arts and Sciences, Maxwell School and Renée Crown University Honors Program
    • Emily Tucci, College of Engineering and Computer Science and Renée Crown University Honors Program
    • Kristin Weeks, College of Arts and Sciences, Maxwell School and Renée Crown University Honors Program
    • Mark Zlotsky, School of Architecture.
