Members of Syracuse University chapter of Golden Golden Key International Honour Society are holding a school supply drive to benefit students at the Ed Smith School in the Syracuse City School District. The “SPARK A Change” school supply drive is part of a global service initiative throughout the Golden Key Society that aims to positively impact and improve the lives of at-risk children. SPARK (Serving Preparing and Readying Kids) accomplishes this through literacy, education and real world preparedness. Donated school supplies will go to K-8 graders in the district’s English as a Second Language (ESL) program.

Among the items needed:

• glue/glue sticks
• crayons
• notebooks
• picture books
• chapter books
• colored pencils
• markers
• writing paper
• folders
• binders
• pencil cases
• backpacks
• pencils
• erasers
• sticky notes
• rulers
• index cards
• scissors
• highlighters
• hats and mittens

Collection bins will be placed in the Engineering and Computer Science Student Services Office, 121 Link Hall; the Department of Biomedical and Chemical Engineering Main Office, 329 Link Hall; Food.com, Newhouse; and the Graduate School, 212 Bowne Hall, throughout the month of October.

Gift card or cash donations will be accepted as well. For gift card donations, contact Dawn Long, chapter advisor, at 443-4575, or bring them to the 329C Link Hall (BMCE Main Office).

Founded in 1977, Golden Key International Honour Society is the world’s largest international collegiate honor society comprised of nearly 2 million undergraduate, graduate and alumni members. With over 400 student chapters worldwide, Golden Key recognizes highly motivated academic achievers who will become leaders and contributors to society in the future. Golden Key presents over $1,000,000 in scholarships and awards to members each year, including $10,000 Graduate Scholar awards to students who have been admitted to graduate programs and $5,000 Undergraduate Achievement Scholarships. Membership in Golden Key is based on the three pillars of academics, leadership and service.
