Setnor Celebrates Steinway Piano Gift with Orange Central Concert
The Rose, Jules R. and Stanford S. Setnor School of Music in the College of Visual and Performing Arts will celebrate the arrival of its newest Steinway D concert grand piano, the generous gift of Syracuse University Professor Emeritus Harold Jones and his wife, Barbara, with a special concert on Friday, Oct. 10, at 4:30 p.m. in the Rose and Jules R. Setnor Auditorium, Crouse College. The concert, presented in conjunction with Syracuse University’s Orange Central, is free and open to the public.
Pianists and Setnor faculty members Fred Karpoff, Steven Heyman, Ida Trebicka and Amy Heyman, along with Setnor student pianists John Wassmuth ‘17, Julia Tucker G’15, Katia Dinas G’15, Yushi Lin G’15 and Sarah Thune G’16, will perform works of Haydn, Schubert, Liszt, Rachmaninoff, Villa-Lobos, Constantinescu, Gershwin-Wild and Glass.
The new Steinway was given as part of Setnor’s All-Steinway School campaign, a designation that means the school will use pianos designed or built by Steinway & Sons exclusively.
“We are so grateful to Barbara and Harold Jones for their generosity,” says Setnor School Director Patrick Jones. “Their gift continues Setnor’s march to become an All-Steinway school, which will ensure our students have the best instruments in the world on which to practice and perform.”
The Setnor School now boasts two new Steinway D concert grand pianos. The first was given as a lead gift by All-Steinway campaign chair Jennie Berkson and her husband, Syracuse University Trustee David Edelstein ’78.
