What’s it take to move hundreds of thousands of books and informational materials? More than a strong back. In preparation for the opening of the new Dineen Hall, the Law Library, which includes hundreds of thousands of books and pieces of informational materials, is being transported across the street. These are the materials that will aid current students and future lawyers, and it must be in place before students arrive on campus.

Behind every great college of law, is a great law library. And today it’s on the move.
“This process will take us a couple of weeks, maybe almost two weeks. But for our first day, it’s going very well.”
Before the college of law makes its move to brand new Dineen Hall, the library must be moved first. It’s an effort that is slightly more involved than moving into a dorm room or a new apartment.
“We have about 250000 print volumes that moving here, we also have 2.5 million pieces of microfilm. Some old historic materials, that are becoming very hard to find, and unlike what you hear on the internet. Not everything is on the internet yet.”
Certainly not when it comes to law library, all of which means each collection must be carefully packed, wrapped and celerfy, and transported across the street to their new home.
“32000 books are coming over. And can be wrapped up within 13,14 working days. These are research materials all faculties all students all lawyers to work with. They use these research materials to prepare for whatever kind of legal situation they are working in. Whether it’s negotiation, whether it’s drafting contract, our collection covers all the areas of law we teach here in Syracuse University. And covers all faculties’ research interests as well.”
And time is of importance considering the students who need those materials will be soon around the campus.
“We are really looking forward to being ready to open for the college of law orientation week in Middle August and we will start the new semester at the college of law here in the Dineen Hall.”
