Two Faculty to Speak on Committee’s Efforts to Develop Backup Plan for Carrier Dome

Two members of the Chancellor’s Workgroup on the Carrier Dome Backup Plan will offer an overview of the workgroup’s findings and respond to questions on Thursday, June 19, at 10:30 a.m. in Room 304B in the Schine Student Center.

Representing the workgroup will be chair Rick Burton, David B. Falk Distinguished Professor of Sport Management in the David B. Falk College of Sport and Human Dynamics, and John Yinger, Trustee Professor of Public Administration and Economics in the Maxwell School.

In late February, Chancellor Kent Syverud appointed a five-person committee—Burton; Yinger; Jeff Rubin, associate professor of practice in the School of Information Studies; John Sardino, associate chief of the Department of Public Safety; and Bridget Yule, director of Student Centers and Programming Services in the Division of Student Affairs—to conduct an analysis of the Carrier Dome and consider the many factors involved should the facility be rendered unusable for short- to long-term periods.

Further, he tasked the group with devising a comprehensive contingency plan that would enable the University to quickly respond should the need arise, quantify the costs involved and better understand the potential negative economic impact to the region.

The group presented its report to the Chancellor in late May.
