Consider Zimride Before Renewing Parking Permits

Parking permit renewal time is a good time to consider starting or joining a carpool.

Carpooling—two or more University employees who commute to work together—allows individuals to share driving responsibilities, lowers the cost of commuting and parking, and reduces parking demand and traffic on campus.

Drivers can form a carpool through Zimride Syracuse at http://www.zimride.com/syr. Each person in a carpool will also have the option to drive separately, and park their vehicle in Booth Parking Garage at a reduced rate, up to 10 times per fiscal year. When using Zimride, the driver has the option to charge the passengers in their carpool for expenses, including a portion of the parking permit.

To participate in the carpool program, all members of a carpool who want to share the driving responsibility will register their vehicles under one multi-vehicle permit, which will provide campus parking for one vehicle; the hanging permit is transferred between the registered vehicles.

Carpool members can determine who the primary permit holder will be according to the best lot option or best rate. It is the responsibility of the carpool permit holder to pay for the permit and comply with all parking rules and regulations.
