College of Engineering and Computer Science Professor Kevin Du has conducted research on smart phone apps, and has found that apps built on one specific platform may be transmitting information without the user’s knowledge. In this video, he demonstrates how, by simply scanning a bar code, a phone can be used as a tracking device without the user even knowing.
