CNY Jazz continues to bring Syracuse the nation’s strongest emerging talent with a first-ever local appearance by vocalist and songwriter Sherma Andrews, a high-energy, supremely soulful singer and instrumentalist. Born in Trinidad, she was playing church organ by age 7, won a National Merit Scholarship to the prestigious Berklee School of Music in Boston and was asked to teach there upon her graduation. She has appeared at the Montreux Jazz Festival, opened for Michael Feinstein, toured with Enrique Iglesias and Britney Spears, and collaborated with artists as diverse as Donna Summer and Branford Marsalis. She has appeared on the American Music Awards, Jay Leno’s Tonight Show, the Today Show, David Letterman and many others. An accomplished songwriter, her compositions have been featured on “The Sopranos,” “All My Children,” and “The Young & the Restless.”

“Sherma came to our attention after her walkaway home run show at last summer’s Binghamton Jazz Festival,” said Larry Luttinger, organizer of the series. “This will be a rare chance for Central New Yorkers to check out a rare talent, a triple threat whose career is going to the next level.”

The CNY Jazz Cabarets features fine national talent in a club atmosphere, with cash bar and food stations available starting at 4 p.m. Andrews will perform two sets at 5 and 6 p.m. Sheraton parking garage tickets will be validated at the door.
