A Rietveld red and blue chair
Iconic chairs owned by faculty in the College of Visual and Performing Arts’ (VPA) Department of Design are the focus of a new exhibition at VPA’s Sue and Leon Genet Gallery.
On view through Friday, Feb. 14, “Chairs: A Designer’s Choice” includes 16 chairs in a range of styles and materials by such notable designers as Alvar Aalto, Mario Bellini, Marcel Breuer, Charles and Ray Eames, Emeco, Mies Van der Rohe, Gerrit Rietveld and Gustav Stickley. The exhibition is curated by James Fathers, professor and chair of the Department of Design, and is a joint project of the design faculty and the department’s graduate program in museum studies.
“Chairs: A Designer’s Choice” is free and open to the public. The Genet Gallery is located on the first floor of the Nancy Cantor Warehouse, 350 W. Fayette St., Syracuse.
