Otto’s Army Temporarily Suspends Camp-Out at Dome

Tuesday, January 21, 2014, By Keith Kobland

After conversations with University officials, Otto’s Army will suspend the camp-out for the Syracuse vs. Duke men’s basketball game on Feb. 1. With temperatures projected to plunge into the negative numbers for the next three nights, concern for students’ health and safety dictated that they not remain outside overnight.

To ensure students’ dedication and enthusiasm for seat placement in the student section remains intact, Otto’s Army has created a schedule to maintain sportsmanship and honesty through the freezing temperatures.

The schedule is as follows:

  • The camp-out will end Tuesday, Jan. 21, at 9 p.m. and resume Wednesday, Jan. 22, at 9 a.m.
  • The camp-out will end Wednesday, Jan. 22, at 9 p.m. and resume Thursday, Jan. 23, at 9 a.m.
  • The camp-out will end Thursday, Jan. 23, at 10 p.m. due to the women’s basketball game and resume Friday, Jan. 24, at 9 a.m.

Each night, an official representative from Otto’s Army will record information to ensure correct line placement of teams prior to the camp-out ending. Students will be able to move their equipment inside the Dome, which will be locked. Each morning, one representative per group must arrive to resume the camp-out promptly at 9 a.m. or their space will be forfeited. An official representative from Otto’s Army will be conducting check-ins to verify correct line placement.

Any further inquiries can be directed to Otto’s Army President Ben Glidden at biglidde@syr.edu or at 207-649-0337.
