University College’s Dean Bea González and Senior Associate Dean Geraldine de Berly traveled to Barranquilla, Colombia, in November to attend the 2013 Global Leaders for Global Engagement conference; the fifth Latin American and Caribbean Higher Education Conference on Internationalization.

Following the conference in Barranquilla, de Berly went on to lead a delegation of 22 UPCEA, AIRC and AIEA members representing 16 American universities to visit 11 universities in Bogóta and Medellín. Working in conjunction with the Ministry of Higher Education Office of Internationalization and joined by González, de Berly led the delegates on planned institutional visits, as well as hosting two well-attended receptions for Colombian university administrators, U.S. State Department personnel and private school academic counselors (one in Bogóta and the other in Medellín). The delegation promoted international education exchange and collaboration and to that end, de Berly and González were able to highlight the range of opportunities available at Syracuse University.
