Jerry P. Ross Named Registrar

Jerry P. Ross has been appointed registrar for Syracuse University. The announcement was made today by Don Saleh, vice president for enrollment management.

“I’m grateful to the committee for their hard work and thorough consideration during an expansive national search,” says Saleh. “Dr. Ross is a well-rounded and experienced choice, and he has a diverse skill set that should position him to succeed at this key role within the University.”

Ross comes to Syracuse with a wealth of higher education experience. He most recently served as associate registrar for academic services at West Virginia University (WVU), where he led the implementation of the Degree Works audit system and oversaw catalog and curriculum inventory management systems. He also oversaw NCAA certification and reporting, office communications, and training and assessment plans. Prior to his time at WVU, Ross held positions of increasing responsibility at the University of Southern Mississippi, including assistant dean for student affairs.

Ross also brings a firsthand understanding of the faculty/classroom experience. A doctor of education in educational studies and research, he has taught first-year seminars, history and American government, international relations and honors forums. This combination of administrative and teaching experience makes Ross a particularly qualified choice for SU Registrar, a position that demands a holistic understanding of client needs; a keen understanding of academic regulation and policy; and a forward-looking approach to technology, training and customer service.

Ross’s appointment becomes effective Feb. 16, 2014.
