Milton Loayza
Point of Contact Gallery will host a special performance titled “Don’t Blame Anyone” on Nov. 21 at 6:30 p.m during Syracuse’s Th3 (The Third Thursday) events. Based on short stories by Julio Cortázar, this performance by Milton Loayza tells the story of a man’s attempts to maintain his sense of reality, a process that carries him deeper into the unreal. This event is free and open to the public.
Loayza is a performer and director who has been focusing in the last four years on bringing Latin American voices to the stage. He has presented “Ella” by Susana Torres Molina and “Asuncion” by Ricardo Monti at the Red House and his own translation of “Are You Prof. Friedman?” by Julio Recalde at ArtRage Gallery. Loayza is also a theater and theory scholar who teaches at SUNY Oswego.
“Don’t Blame Anyone” is a solo performance that combines the theatrical presence of a single character struggling to make sense of his reality and the fantastic and imaginative lines that pulsate through Cortázar’s short fiction. This performance celebrates the coming centenary of the author’s birth (1914).
From 5-8 p.m. visitors are also welcome to view “Tango,” on display at Point of Contact Gallery. “Tango” is a 21-piece grand-format folio published by Iris Editions in New York (1991), a collaborative work that includes eight intaglios by the late Nancy Graves and 13 pages of text by Pedro Cuperman, which gaze at the aesthetics of this Latin American dance.
