Vice Chancellor and Provost Eric F. Spina Appointed Interim Chancellor
Earlier today, at a meeting of the Executive Committee of the Board of Trustees, Vice Chancellor and Provost Eric F. Spina was unanimously selected to serve as Interim Chancellor of Syracuse University. Please see the message below from Chairman of the SU Board of Trustees Richard L. Thompson for more details. For more background, read the message from Chancellor Cantor.
To the Syracuse University Campus Community,
Earlier today, the Executive Committee of the Board of Trustees unanimously and enthusiastically approved the appointment of Vice Chancellor and Provost Eric F. Spina to serve as Interim Chancellor of Syracuse University.
He will assume his new duties beginning Monday, October 14, and will serve in this role until January 13, 2014, at which time Chancellor-designate Kent Syverud will begin his tenure. Dr. Spina is an outstanding choice to lead the University during this important period of transition, and I very much look forward to working with him.
I would like to thank Chancellor Cantor for the thoughtful approach she took to formulating the plans she announced yesterday, consulting with me about how to optimize her time to assist Chancellor-designate Syverud as he makes his transition, to ensure a successful transition for herself to Rutgers-Newark, and focus on key remaining initiatives and obligations.
Richard L. Thompson, Chairman
Syracuse University Board of Trustees
