Live Audioconference: ‘A Clear Standard for Access to Instruction’

All SU faculty and staff are invited to “A Clear Standard for Access to Instruction,” a live, web-based audioconference focused on accessibility in online environments, produced by the Association on Higher Education and Disability (AHEAD; http://www.ahead.org). The event will occur on Thursday, Au. 29, from 3-4:30 p.m. ET and be hosted on the SU campus in Room 1-218 in the Center for Science and Technology.  Registration is free; please RSVP to dclowe@syr.edu by Aug. 27 if you plan to attend.

This past July the Department of Justice (DOJ) announced a settlement agreement with Louisiana Tech University resolving a complaint about inaccessible course materials. This is the latest in recent collaborative efforts of regulatory and enforcement agencies as they interpret college campuses’ obligations under the ADA such as at UC Berkeley, South Carolina Technical College and others.

For the audioconference, AHEAD President Scott Lissner will host a panel of nationally recognized experts as they present   important highlights of recent cases, discuss campus obligations for accessibility in online environments and give concrete steps that can be taken to review, plan and refine online access policies and delivery methods.

This audioconference is a training opportunity that will provide valuable information as SU evaluates the accessibility of its online and electronic instruction and services, and resolves barriers in its environments.

Presentation of this audioconference on the SU campus is jointly  sponsored by the Office of Faculty Development, the Office of Disability Services, the Disability Cultural Center, and Information Technology and Services.

“AHEAD to You” audioconferences include web-based real-time captioning, along with associated reference materials.
