Community Folk Art Center is pleased to invite you to attend the opening reception of our summer 2013 exhibition: “Give and Take: The Currency of Culture” on June 21 from 5-7 p.m. The exhibition features new, site-specific installations and performance art by Aisha Cousins, Nzuji De Magalhães and Nontsikelelo Mutiti.
During the opening reception, there will be a hair-related art performance by Mutiti. The artist will ask Syracuse-based braiders and community residents to braid hair on mannequins. Visitors will also have the opportunity to participate in the creation of an art score, an interactive performance, by Cousins. The audience will participate in a new score entitled, “Flowers for Sandra.” They will create flowers out of Fela’s lyrics. These flowers will then be placed on in front of an image of Smith’
