Tennity Open to Faculty, Staff, Families this Saturday from 1-3
Are you looking for a fun, healthy way to spend some quality family time? Then it’s time to lace up your skates. Syracuse University’s Office of Faculty Development and the University Wellness Initiative are sponsoring an afternoon of ice skating at Tennity Ice Skating Pavilion on Saturday, March 30, from 1-3 p.m.
The rinks will be open to SU faculty and staff and their families during this time. Admission and skate rentals are free; those participating are welcome to bring their own skates. Skaters and non-skaters and children of all ages are welcome. Light refreshments will be served and registration is not necessary.
David Van Slyke, professor of public administration and international affairs in the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs, has participated in this event with his three children, ages 17, 14 and 11. They have attended this event in the past sponsored by the Office of Faculty Development and enjoy the family time together, as well as camaraderie with other families.
“I think one of the reasons this event is so much fun for my family is because we know about it in advance, it’s on a Saturday so it doesn’t interfere with many of the school activities, and we have fun skating together and then warming up with refreshments. We look forward every year to participating in it,” Van Slyke says.
“We are happy to offer opportunities for faculty, staff and their families to get out and ‘move’ in a fun, social setting,” says Susan Furtney, who is leading the University Wellness Initiative. “We know how important physical activity is to maintain and improve good health and this event is representative of the type of social outdoor activities that will be offered as part of the initiative.”
The University Wellness Initiative was established in July 2012 to improve the health and well-being of faculty and staff at Syracuse University. Questions about this event or the University Wellness Initiative may be directed to firstname.lastname@example.org.
